Charters has obviuosly done his homework on what he considers to be the groundbreakers within the different fields of the blues but makes several ommissions in others. His desciption and breakdown of the playing styles used by the main players is superb and his biographical notes bring the personality of the individual to life but he leaves out others which I feel are important. Only a passing mention of Sonny Boy Williamson 1 and Blind Willie Johnson. Surely they deserve better for the contribution they made to the history of the blues.
On the whole though an excellent book and highly recommended for any avid blues fan.

I found this to be one of the most informative books I have ever read on country blues, breaking it down by regions of the south and containing many in-depth biographies of several seminal blues artists. Essential.
