Blues Brothers fans beware - this is not a concert, despite what the sleeve notes might imply! Rather it is a mock interview/conversation between Tom Davis and Dan Ackroyd (both as himself and as Elwood J Blues) interspersed with music clips from Saturday Night Live and film of the Blues Brothers on the road. Achroyd's musings are intelligent. informative and interesting (Elwood's are dry and witty) while Davis soon becomes irritating and sycophantic.

But what about the music? These are classic performances with Belushi and Ackroyd proving that they CAN sing and play harp. Some of the sound balance/mix is uneven and could have done with some post-production to tart it up. On a couple of numbers Belushi's voice wanders in and out of tune and on "Can't turn you loose" different members of the band appear to be playing in different keys! But generally speaking, the performances are solid and the band provide great support.

Bixarrely, the Blues Brothers' anthem "Everybody needs somebody" is missing from the set even though Ackroyd enthuses about how well it was always received. There are some gems, particularly Belushi throwing himself about the stage dressed as a bee (don't ask!) and the performance of "Shotgun blues" is just wonderful.

I paid a tenner for it and I don't think it's worth any more as it only runs for an hour or so. The "extras" consist of biogs and histories, some movie posters and BB trivia - did you know that Belushi managed to lose 1,000 pairs of sunglasses during the period of the shoot?

This is one for enthusiasts, or people with clever DVD players who can play just the songs without the chat.
