Product Description

After a party, sixteen-year-old Fran accepts a ride from Chesnie’s brother, and her life changes forever. She leaves her parents and her boyfriend to live with her best friend’s grandmother at the edge of a woods. In the woods, the girls practice a secret ritual to exorcise the memory of what happened that night. Would the magic work? Maybe, but not in the way either girl expected. Fran must do battle not only with her own demons but with Chesnie’s also, as she tries to forget that fateful ride home. But Fran still wants to keep her best friend, even as Chesnie becomes obsessed with revenge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just couldn't put it down 8 Nov 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well, I did a special radio show for this book release and it was an amazing show playing many of my favourite 80s tracks. However I hadn't bought the book. So anyway, I purchased the book a few days later and it sat on my Kindle until Wednesday this week, when I was lying in bed and flicking through my Kindle books. I Saw it there and thought I could have a little read for an hour or so before I went to sleep... Safe to say I read continually for a few hours and only had to stop because of the time. A thrilling book with twists and turns, it kept me reading late into the night, when really I should have been sleeping. Marta Pelrine-Bacon builds the characters so well and you feel like you know them, being an 80s man myself, I felt I could relate to the characters. A wonderful book which I cannot wait to get back into again to see what happens... Recommended read.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Couldn't Put It Down!!! 12 Oct 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

A lovely story of revenge! I love this novel. From the very beginning, I was drawn into Lake Belle and the story of the characters that live there. I couldn't wait to find out what happened to these characters. I was actually annoyed when I had to run errands or do other things than read this book. I couldn't wait to get back to it. At the end of the book, I didn't want to leave them. And sometimes, in my mind, I travel back there. The characters are so well developed, they seem like real people. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dear Ms. Pelrine-Bacon 3 Nov 2013
By Literary Hedonist - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Dear Ms Pelrine-Bacon,

Wow. Charlie is one of the best villains I have seen in a long time. He is a true sociopath. His character unfolds like a rotten onion. And the image of his sister Chesnie subconsciously slicing her grandmother's curtain with a knife after a blistering encounter with her with her parents perfectly encapsulates the frustration of teenagers saddled with dysfunctional parents who have no idea how dysfunctional they are.

As another reviewer remarked, this definitely is not a YA book. For that I thank you (even though I do enjoy them on occasion. :) ).The Blue Jar is something better - a true novel that holds the reader in its grasp, desperate to know where Fran & Chesnie's tangled webs of well-meaning lies & painful truths lead them. It is a story of learning to take your power any way you can to get the results you seek.

More, please.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Magic of Friendship 23 Oct 2013
By Sarah Stockton - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Blue Jar invokes an aura of at-times almost unbearable tension, as two teenage girls, Chesnie and Fran, grapple with the twin demons of abuse and neglect from their families. However, beauty and tenderness show up in unexpected places: the joking smile of a stranger willing to help, the pleasure of a longed-for rainstorm, the counsel of an older wise-woman who cares. Chesnie and Fran are united by friendship, by the secrets they hide from the world and the healing that comes from sharing those secrets, and ultimately, by their unwillingness to be limited or forever tainted by the suffering they've encountered in their young lives. The author clearly articulates the anger and powerlessness felt by young women everywhere when not allowed their dignity or the freedom of their own choices. Fran and Chesnie turn to magic in an attempt to take back their own lives, but their real power comes in the form of fierce action, an instinct for survival, and the ability to imagine something better. I hope the author is planning a sequel so that we can find out where these young women go, and what they do, next!

5.0 out of 5 stars If You Loved "Twin Peaks" You Will Love "THE BLUE JAR." 14 Nov 2013
By Jkm the secret keeper - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
A thoroughly intriguing, psychological & mystical thriller. Like the author Marta Pelrine-Bacon of "The Blue Jar," I, also, am an addicted fan of the cult TV series "Twin Peaks." Special Agent Dale Cooper & what happened to Laura Palmer? have been viewed by me more times than the number of cups of 'a damned fine cup of coffee' & pieces of 'cherry pie' Agent Cooper has consumed. And like Twin Peaks , Lake Belle is as quirky a place to visit, with all its eccentricities to keep you enthralled. The reader is continually surprised at just what happens next. "The Blue Jar" is a "Twin Peaks'" in words. I feel David Lynch, the Director, Writer, Creator of Twins Peaks would find it a very creative book, filled to the brim with dramatic & imaginative twists & curves, that move you, fill you with concern & drive your mind to continue reading to the very end. And when you arrive at the end, the final words, you feel fully satisfied, yet wanting to spend more time with the characters you have grown to know & care for & yes, even love. "The Blue Jar" is the book you don't want to put down, even if you need to eat, sleep, or feed the wild animals who are looking at you like food. You really want to read "The Blue Jar." --- Jk the secret keeper ♥
