More About the Author

As a parent of a differently abled child I struggled to find suitable material to progress my child's reading. A learning experience where my son had fun prolonged the time he was prepared to apply himself to his work.

With my wonderful and very dedicated team I am proud to have produced over thirty children's books and CD's and lots of supplementary resources, with many more to come in the future. No effort is spared to produce the very best resources of the highest quality as our special children deserve nothing less.

POPS Resources offers a fun filled book and games approach aimed at maximising your child's exposure to the targeted vocabulary. My son loves success and thrives on praise. Opportunities for success are an integral component of these resources.

Product Description

Review

The POPS Reading Programme has been devised in consultation with a range of professionals, including specialist teachers and speech and language therapists. It offers a carefully structured approach to developing early reading skills and spoken language competence. The materials are very appropriate for pupils with specific speech and language impairments receiving specialist provision, but could also be used in a mainstream setting with pupils who have special educational needs, including those with reading difficulties. At the end of each book is an extremely helpful section called Developing Language Skills. These speech therapist scripts provide teachers and parents with a structure to encourage narrative recall, raise questions about characters actions and feelings and explore vocabulary around a given category, such as toys. Not only does this support language and communication skills but it also helps to develop reading comprehension. The children in my speech and language centre loved the cartoon-like illustrations, responded positively to the characters and could relate to the themes. My brother paints his tummy! giggled one, while another raised her eyebrows, saying, my mum always loses her keys! The POPS Reading Programme has broad-based appeal and although aimed at pupils with speech, language and communication difficulties, could be used with a wider range of children. The inclusion of the mischievous Kal presents a positive image of a differently-abled child, offering a useful starting point for discussion in PSHE sessions. The materials are underpinned by a sound knowledge of reading and language development and are well thought out and user friendly. There are lots of useful practical ideas and the programme is well structured without being over prescriptive. I look forward to using it again with my pupils and would not hesitate to recommend it to colleagues. --Andrew Taylor, teacher in charge, primary school speech and language centre.

As a mother of an eight year old daughter with Down syndrome, I would just like to tell you how much my daughter has enjoyed the first two set of books. We have tried many book schemes over the last 4 years and none of them have been able to hold Claudia s attention as these books have. She loves the flash words and matching games and will happily play with them for quite some time; in fact it is I that usually says enough now, let's put them away. I have just spoken to our LEA who has agreed to purchase the next two sets of books. My daughter has made more progress in reading during the last three months, than she has the previous four years. --Mrs. Lynne Lynch (mother)
