Thoroughly enjoyed this fast moving action packed thriller. Largely based in Belfast, and drawing a lot of references from past Irish politics and atrocities, the intriguing plot unfolds with Michael Forsythe trying to discover the whereabouts of his arch-enemies daughter.

I was slightly disconcerted by the violence in the book, but I expect the ideas would have been largely based on factual occurrences of similar crimes in the days of the political unrest in Ireland. Not usually the kind of book that I would choose, but am very pleased with it; I have recommended it to a couple of other people, which should speak volumes about it!

I won't expand on plots and the amount of voilence within the story as this is avaiable to learn about on the synposis and other reviews. As far as being a good read this book delivers..... It's fast paced, easy to pick up and put down and pretty much there's never a dull moment.... I can thoroughly recommend it as good poolside/beach reading for the coming summer holidays for those readers who enjoy crime/action type novels. There is one thing about the book that I found ever so annoying and it has nothing to with the story itself, but whoever programmed the type-setting on the print run has set it so that every letter "j" is printed in italics..... Very annoying !

This is a great novel. The action cracks along from Peru to Belfast with the 'hero' committing vast amounts of mayhem along the way to rescue the daughter of the wife of a gangster that he killed 11 years before. It's not helped that prior to the action in the story she has been trying to kill him for killing her husband.
The body count is massive, you get a taste of the underside of both Belfast and Dublin and the sense of the huge animosity that is still there in Nothern Ireland.
But in spite of that the hero, Michael Forsythe (the only killer I've come across with an artifical leg..) does have some quieter moments where for example he gives a pregnant girl, whose car he hi-jacks, nearly 11 grand because she is on her own.
There is a twist in the story which is sort of telegraphed but it does have elements of a love story to offset the violence (and there is a lot of that ..)
It should be filmed - its would make a cracking film

Tough, adrenalin-charged ride
This is my first McKinty and though it's the third in a trilogy the back story is adequately explained so it's not a problem to read this without having read the others. Read more

Brilliant - more of this please
To be honest I only ordered this because of the poor range of choices provided by Amazon Vine's ridiculous new "personalisation" system. Read more
