Not being able to read the original Russian text, it was good to find a reasonably priced translation of this, the second of five short stories that form The Tales of the Late Ivan Petrovich Belkin. As these five stories are not really related reading one like this in isolation is not an issue. The story is that of Marya Gavrilovna. She falls in love with a young officer, but her parents disapprove. So starts a sequence of events and coincidences which are the subject of this story.
The translation read well, and the formatting and presentation was good, and I very much enjoyed this short little gem.
