I found this album in the bargain basement of a soho record shop for a pound, and bought it based on the name and album art. I had never heard of The Blam before, and guessed that they would be a late british punk band.
I was completely wrong. The Blam are a new york rock band of the highest pedigree, but you can't tell. They sound more English than most English bands do these days! My best way of describing them is if the Strokes had grown up listening to the British masters of rock and pop, the Beatles, David Bowie, the Kinks and the Rolling Stones rather than Lou Reed and The Velvet underground.
All in all, The Blam is a great debut. Do buy it if you like the New York scene, but buy it even more if you want to hear what we could be doing this side of the pond, if only we put our minds to it.
