*****

The world is thrust into darkness and silence, but no one knows why.
Molly is an English professor at a local liberal arts college when the world suddenly goes dark. Her husband, Gary, is a corporate pilot on the other side of the country. Grounded by what appears to be a catastrophic power outage, he has no way to communicate with his wife, let alone get home to her.

Not knowing whether her husband is alive or dead, Molly struggles to adapt to her new environment: without power, running water, transportation, a stable food supply, or any long-distance means of communication. Without knowing the cause of the outage, Gary must decide whether to wait for things to go back to normal, or to make the long and dangerous journey home on foot. Both must learn to survive after the Blackout.

2.0 out of 5 stars Believable Idea but..... 23 July 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I started reading this with high hopes. It started off fairly well but quickly started to fade. The scenario became too unreal too quickly. A busy airfield where all electrical systems stopped -- only one crash -- hundreds of passengers exiting stranded aircraft but a pilot on the far side of the airfield stays in the office for a couple of days before deciding to walk, yes, walk hundreds of miles home. This would probably be a reasonable story if written by a teenager, in a hurry to turn in some homework, but not a story for adults.
I would not have written a review but Amazon emailed me to rate it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could have been a good story 19 July 2013
By TonyBee
Format:Kindle Edition
This had the potential for being a good story with real characters being created , but for me it came apart about halfway through the book and I had to give it up, therefore I do not feel qualified to review it.
A couple of things I had issues with were the unrealistic building of the wall and the vast distance that Gary had to walk when a bicycle would have been very handy, but this was not mentioned.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 17 Jun. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I had high hopes for this premise but found the tale disappointing. The situation of the blackout and the manner in which the people reacted to it was all very predictable and hackneyed. Some of the characters were interesting but not sufficiently appealing to hold my interest and boredom set in long before the hastily wrapped up ending.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars? 12 Jun. 2014

I wouldn't go so far to say I love it but it's definitely a good story, original plot, good character development - I would definitely reread (more than once!)
