4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Album From Rock's Renaissance Man 20 July 2011
Format:Audio CD
The latest solo CD from Dave Stewart is a rock-solid effort in which the virtuoso's love of country music and the blues informs each song in its own individual way. There are also some stunning collaborations with Stevie Nicks, Martina McBride and Colbie Callait as well. Dave Stewart, as an in-demand producer and collaborator, is always behind the scenes with his finger on the pulse of what's happening in music, so it is very nice to see his step out in front for awhile and let his star shine.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't believe how good this record was! 20 Sep 2011
By G. E. Harrison TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
I was really surprised by this record - which I came to after listening to Dave's contributions to 'Superheavy' - I couldn't believe it was so good! Both Dave's vocals and his guitar playing are a revelation (I didn't know he played slide!) and if songs like 'So long ago' and 'Magic in the blues' have tough blues references they also have much more of a melodic pop sensibility. Elsewhere there is lots of variety from the country sounds of 'Country wine', to the Stones-like swagger of 'Stevie baby' and the acoustic reggae of 'The well', while 'Worth the waiting for' (co-written with Dylan!) could have been a Eurythmics song. The guests - Stevie Nicks, Martina McBride, Colbie Caillat and the Secret Sisters - bring more variety and the band is terrific throughout.

I always enjoyed Dave's contributions to the Eurythmics but here he combines his knack of turning out great pop melodies with a much tougher, rootsier sound - possibly the result of recording in Nashville. His slide guitar playing reminds me of George Harrison, concentrating on melody rather than rehashing blues cliches. Excellent record.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended 22 July 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
A wonderful mixture of blues, light rock and country music. Only one track was more 'straight' country and not my cup of tea. If you like slide guitar, this is for you!
