Product Description

Product Description

The story of Swan Lake has enchanted generations: a monumental tale of loyalty and betrayal, of magic used for good and evil, of love both carnal and pure, and of the incredible duality of human nature as Prince Siegfried, a selfish hedonist and dissolute womaniser, comes across the swan maidens as day dissolves into dusk . . . And then the woman he has wronged teaches him a lesson that will change the course of his life for ever . . . Mercedes Lackey uses her own brilliant storytelling to breathe vibrant new life into an old favourite.

About the Author

Mercedes Lackey is a fulltime writer and professional lyricist who lives with her husband and sometime collaborator, Larry Dixon, in "the weirdest house in Oklahoma", where they run a sanctuary for birds of prey and an aviary for exotic birds.

I found this book a rather interesting variation of the original Swan Lake, but the writing lacks depth, and it is hard to be properly "immersed" in it.

I just finished reading a great book. It is "THE BLACK SWAN" by Mercedes Lackey. It is fantasy about the story of Swan Lake. She fleshes out the ballet story and makes it into a real fairy tale. I could see parts of the ballet as I read the story. I also was mesmerized and glued to my seat even though I basically knew the end. For ballet lovers and fantasy readers this is a must!

As usual with one of Mercedes Lackey books, this was an excellent read. I couldn't put it down! It was a wonderfully refreshing look at an old story.

A great read
This book is fantastic. A whole new twist put into a familiar story makes it seem real but so very new and different. Read more

Not up to her usual standard.
This fantasy adventure, loosely based on Swan Lake, is seriouly disappointing. Fans of Mercedes Lackey, expecting nail biting tension and haunting characterisation will probably... Read more

Brilliant
Although not in her usual setting of Valdemar, the Black Swan is definitely of the same style and calibre. Read more

not in her normal style, disappointing
Black Swan is a retelling of Swan Lake. This is the only Mercedes Lackey book that I've not reread at least 3 or 4 times, I couldn't even finish it. Read more

You have got to get this book
This book was well thought out, with believeable characters with whom I could really empathise with. I even felt sorry for the prince at one point. Read more

Not what I was expecting

Well, I loved the cover art, but comparing this book to the Fire Rose by Mercedes Lackey, it's not nearly as good. Read more
