This is, in my opinion, an essential guide for fans of The Black Dagger Brotherhood series, even those who have become disillusioned with the direction of the more recent books. The novella with Zsadist and Bella alone is worth the price. And add to that tons of information about each of the six brothers, all neatly gathered, right at your finger tips. A great guide to keep along with all your other brother books. Its sure to please any fan.

The Insider's Guide includes-
*82 page novella about Zsadist, Bella and Nalla (covers the birth and months afterward concentrating on Zsadist's adjustment to fatherhood)
* The Brother's stats (age, weight, eyes etc), personal questions answer sheet (e.i. fav TV show, what do you fear most?, most romantic thing you've ever done), and Ward's personal 'interview' with each brother
*Writer's guide -for those who want to know about breaking into the publishing business Ward gives some advice. Also included is the proposal for the brotherhood series that was sent through her agent to publishers.
*Deleted scenes -your absolutely going to love this if your Z fan *sigh*
*Kicks and Giggles -interesting quotes from each of the books
*Brother's on the board (that's Ward's discussion board) -imagine if-you-will that the brother's are regular posters on a discussion board this is what they write about themselves and others (they tease each other unmercifully)-some very funny scenes! Also includes Phury and Cormia's mating ceremony.
*Slices of life -little vignettes that Ward posted on the board about the brothers. Includes Movie Night, Wrath and the Letter Opener, In the Nature of Phury, and The Interview That Never Happened.
*Question and answer with Ward
*Time Line of the Brotherhood
*Table of abbreviations (i.e.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Stuff 19 Oct 2008
By Jilana
Format:Paperback
I was holding off trying to form an opinion on wether this book would be worth buying as I am a frequent visitor to the BDB website. It's quite true that 99% of what is in this book is already on the Site and for free - so unless you live/eat/breath BDB, probably not.
However free web stuff is not the same as having the material at your bedside and available 24/7. I love dipping in and out of the books and reading favourite chapters, this is great for that because it's in small sections. There was also still quite a bit I'd missed whilst caught up in the rollercoaster rides that are the Novels. This book really fleshed some bits out for me - like Lassiter for instance and it's great getting JR's take on where ideas and words etc came from.

Also, purely as a marketing tool, the tiny excerpt from Revh's book (not due until May 09 -and what's the betting that gets pushed back); is a real appetite wetter. Not much info there other than Revh's Lady looks to be called Ehlena - (here's hoping she's as feisty a girl as Kelley Armstrong's Elena Michaels) a nurse at Haver's clinic where Revh's becoming a regular visitor because his continuing drug use is causing problems. I can't wait!

Like many Fans I presume, my absolute favourite Brother is Z, and the Novella which opens the book is totally heartrending. I actually shed a tear, I kept wanting to reach out and hug him, not that he'd have allowed it!
Zsadist's struggle with the reality of what impact his past could have on his Daughter's future and how this affects his relationship with her now, is heartrending. He and Bella have worked so hard to form a rock-solid relationship but both he and his Shellan have had to adjust to so much in such a short time; can they adjust some more?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Brotherhood banquette 26 Jan 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is brilliant and I got it just at the right time, tunring to it after reading Lover Enshrined (literally minutes after).

The first thing in the book is a small 80 page story, Father Mine, that gives us an update of Zsadist and Bella and thier struggle at becoming parents to Nalla and feeling like they've lost each other in the process. (Any one who remembers those first months with a newborn will identify) and Zsadist's personal battle of how to bond with Nalla while still protecting her from his past. It was such an emotional story, so packed with love and feeling, I cried more than once while reading it.

The rest of the book is a whole collection of stuff about the brothers, interviews with them, JR Wards personal account of writing the books, chat room antics, deleted scenes etc. So much fun. And presented in a way that lets you pick up and put down as want.

As a huge fan of the series my collection would not be complete without this book! And I know as I read each story again I will have this one by my side to refer to.

4.0 out of 5 stars Black Dagger Brotherhood Series Companion 25 Mar 2012
By Sarah Gibson TOP 50 REVIEWER TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
The Black Dagger Brotherhood: An Insider's Guide is a great addition to the series and one I'd highly recommend to BDB fans. It does contain spoilers for the earlier books in the series though so make sure you've read at least as far as Lover Enshrined (book 6) before you pick this one up. The guide includes character interviews, statistics about all of your favourite brothers, deleted scenes and slices of life along with writing advice for aspiring authors. I have to admit I skimmed through the writing advice because it was of no interest to me so I can't comment on how helpful it would be for writers but the book is well worth buying for the other content.

I would have happily paid the price of this book just for the novella featuring Zsadist and Bella as they try to adjust to life with newborn Nalla. Zsadist is by far my favourite brother so as far as I'm concerned I can never have too much of his story and Father Mine is a wonderful extra for fans. Bella and Zsadist didn't have much time to bond as a couple before Nalla was born and the pressures of having a newborn is driving a wedge between them. Zsadist worries about the effects his past will have on Nalla in the future and it is making it hard for him to bond with his daughter. The novella was an incredibly emotional read as Zsadist takes another step towards accepting himself and coming to realise that he isn't to blame for the things that happened to him.

I also loved the character interviews and statistics that we get for Wrath, Rhage, Zsadist, Butch, Vishous and Phury. It reminded me of all the things I loved about each of the warrior's stories and has made me want to re-read the whole series again from the beginning.
