Helpful 12 May 2009
Format:Paperback
This book was helpful and reassuring at the last mental endurance stage of pregnancy when you are just waiting for the birth. It was informative and easy to follow with lots of bullet points. On a negative, for me it was also very American and so did not relate to the NHS. I bought this for my mum who was my birth partner and when I had a thought or worry we would look it up. It was not helpful when thinking about what drugs you might want to take but when thinking about symptoms of labour it was informative and concise. I would recommend it as a reference book when waiting for first baby .

AMAZINGLY USEFUL 5 Nov 2010
By T. JANE
Format:Paperback
I bought this book to ensure that I knew what I was doing as my wife's birth partner - this book made sure I was prepared and nothing came as a suprise. My little daughter was born at home and I was able to support my wife to have a wonderful birth expereince - I lend my copy to all my friends - Dads-to-be: get this book!

It explains what's happening at every stage of the birth, what you should be doing, what your partner will be going through and feeling, what the support should be doing. It tells you what to pack, what to prepare at home for afterwards and made me feel in control (well, as much as you can be!).

Book arrived within a week after the first one went astray. I finished it rather quickly as it reads really easily and has no hard to follow jargon. I'm happy that every topic I wanted to know about was covered, I feel like I have gained a lot of knowledge from this book. I bought this book for my husband to read through and I'm confident that he'll beable to take away some useful tips from it. The only downside is that it is an American book so mentions how birth is managed in an American hospital and how hard finding a midwife to go along with your homebirth is, althought it also mentions briefly the proceedures in the UK. I would definately recommend this book if you're think seriously of having a home birth.
