Book Description

28 May 2012
Two wheels, two pedals, a seat and some handlebars the bicycle is a beautifully simple means of transport, and its simplicity has allowed it to enjoy a soaring resurgence of popularity in urban areas, as millions embrace its speed, efficiency, and yes, its aesthetic. The Bike-Owners Handbook is a beautiful little guide for all the millions of bicycle-commuters who just want to know the basics of repairing and maintaining their bikes, without having to immerse themselves in a vast and complicated technical manual. With sumptuous black and white photography and clear, but warm illustrations, it provides step-by-step explanations to repairing a puncture, adjusting brakes and gears, cleaning a bike and basic maintenance. An appendix at the back of the book provides cycling inspiration and tips from some of the big names in the field. An app of the book will be released towards the end of 2012, and QR codes at the end of each chapter will allow readers to link their iPhones directly to instructional YouTube videos illustrating the repairs step by step.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for urban cyclists 18 May 2012
Format:Paperback
A lot of my friends seem to instinctively know how to take a bike apart and put it back together in ten minutes flat. I don't. But I do love my bike. It cost me a small fortune and I ride it every day. I bought this on a whim, and I'm really hoping it's going to revolutionise the way I ride. It's the first repair manual I've seen that really illustrates what exactly you need to do to fix the basics - punctures, maintenance - that kind of thing. Great illustrations and clear explanations. It even has QR codes that apparently link to videos of the repairs (I don't know this for certain, as I'm as crap with my phone as I am with my bike). It's nicely packaged too - that blue stripe on the cover is an elastic band a la Moleskine. I'm impressed. Definitely worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great little guide 7 Jan 2013
Format:Paperback
Great looking book, just bigger than pocket-sized but easy to carry with you. Well written and brilliant tips for a beginner-intermediate cyclist who is learning the basics of bike maintenance. Dad was v happy with this! Just what he'd been looking for.

4.0 out of 5 stars Basic but still useful 20 July 2012
By DLW
Format:Paperback
To be honest, this is a very slim and basic book - basic bike maintenance and care. But its small size makes it perfect for just having in your bag. It is a bit expensive, but I will keep it in my pannier always.I used it when I had to fix a puncture for the very first time. I then used it to guide me on adjusting my rear brakes after fixing said puncture. If I wanted more general guidance on urban cycling or on cycling techniques then I'd have bought Cyclecraft or Ballantine's City Cycling (and I have, but I don't carry either of them around with me).
