3 of 3 people found the following review helpful By Duluoz Lautrec on 24 Aug. 2011
Format: Audio CD
'The Big Sleep' captures The Only Ones live, it says 'live in Europe' on the back but that's as much information as you'll find on the inlay, according to Wikipedia, it was recorded at the Amsterdam Paradiso and before 'Oh Lucinda' Peter Perrett introduces it as being from their next album which was released in 1980 so I'd say this live set must date from late '79 or early '80 at a guess.
It's produced by John Perry, it's raw and tight and doesn't contain a filler song amongst the 14 recorded, it's got that sound of an intimate live gig and there sounds to be about 10 people in the audience at some points but that doesn't stop the band from tearing into another song, Perrett's voice is on the edge for most of the set but it suits the overall mood of a raw concert.
All in all, a cracking addition to The Only Ones catalogue, I'm off to dig out their 3 albums and give them a good listening to.

This album isnt quite as good as special view, but it is definitely worth buying any true power pop or pre-punk rock and roll fan should put this in their album collection right away.
