The person who gave this one star is obviously entitled to his opinion. Perhaps he didn't realise what he was buying.
I grew up in the 70's watching The Big Match on ITV on Sunday lunchtimes. It had a much more "lighthearted" feel to it than the bland corporacy of Match of the Day on BBC. As the late, great Brian Moore stated in his autobiography, ITV tried to give their football coverage a "Tabloid" feel. And they succeeded! Football coverage was less in those days, but if ever the phrase "Less is More" is relevant, it is here. Modern football has suffered from saturation coverage, in my opinion it was much better in the 70's and 80's where it was definitely quality and not quantity.
This DVD has great features such as Jimmy Hill debating issues around refereeing & the laws of the game using footage from games, the "Golden Goal" competition, which was shamelessly copied by the BBC, Viewers Letters, fun spots, items on what became of famous players entitled "Where Are They Now?". Also "Review of the Year" features, Jim Rosenthal's News Desk (hasn't he aged!) and so on. See also the confrontation on live TV between Malcolm Allison and Alan Mullery following Big Mal's criticism of Mullery and England following their exit from the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. It's a shame there are no opinionated panelists on TV during this World Cup instead of the dull, boring, fence-sitting of Lineker, Shearer et al.
All in all, I found this to be a hugely enjoyable trip down memory lane, and the perfect compliment to the rest of the Big Match DVDs which relate to a specific club. As I said at the beginning, a fantastic DVD provided you realise what you are buying.
