Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

One of the most inspired cobbled-together-from-a-stack-of-records soundtrack albums since Pulp Fiction, The Big Lebowski matches the goofily ramshackle spirit of the Dude, the hero of its celluloid companion. While offering Bob Dylan's luv-addled "Man in Me" together with the Gipsy Kings' redefinitive "Hotel California" and the psychedelic era Kenny Rogers nugget "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)", Lebowski also gives longer play to some cuts barely sampled in the film, including Elvis Costello's "My Mood Swings". Whether taken as a Coen Brothers mix tape, a one-album CD carousel, or an apropos souvenir of one wiggy flick, this is a smart, eclectic buy. --Rickey Wright

All who have seen The Big Lebowski (1998) will agree it features an excellent, and diverse, collection of music. Most of this music was not that well known before the film's release. If you're a fan of the film then I very much recommend buying this soundtrack - even if you owe money all over town (including to known pornographers).

Some of these tracks are not as enjoyable without the visuals - "Ataypura" being the most obvious example to me. But I didn't realise just how good some of the music in the film was until I heard it on this CD. Both "Traffic Boom" and "Wie Glauben" sound far out, man!

Most of the memorable songs from the film are present here, such as "The Man In Me", "Just Dropped In", "Hotel California" and "Dead Flowers". Yet, sadly, some songs are missing from the CD - such as the excellent "Tumbling Tumbleweeds", "Looking Out My Back Door" and both versions of "Viva Las Vegas". It's a real shame, as including these songs would have really tied the CD together. Maybe there were issues regarding copyright? Or perhaps it was compiled by a bunch of amateurs!

However, all is not lost, as some of the missing songs are available as MP3 downloads here on Amazon. They are:

Sons Of The Pioneers - Tumbling Tumbleweeds (1946 version)
Esquivel - Mucha Muchacha
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Looking Out My Back Door
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Run Through The Jungle
Santana - Oye Como Va
Booker T & MGs - Behave Yourself
Dean Martin - Standing On The Corner
Debbie Reynolds - Tammy

There's also a selection of classical pieces used in the film but not included on the album, though I can't comment on these - or I'd be out of my element.

And if you want to dig even deeper you could try getting hold of Songs Of The Humpback Whale by Roger Payne to listen to in the bath whilst doing a J.

Abide.

Classic movie, classic soundtrack.. something that the Coen brothers know all too well. Not only are the techniques used in the film brilliant, but the use of music is original and quite possibly unique. (Whenever a track plays, it emments from the object its comming from.. watch the movie again if you dont understand).

Anyway, the music is good fun 'groovy' stuff dude, so if you are looking for some oldie but goodies.. then check this disk out man..

This is probably one of the best soundtracks around, with some of the grooviest tunes I have ever heard. Turn up the volume and sing to your hearts content! There's plenty of variation in music styles; rock, blues, easy listening. It's fab!!!
