Product Description

Product Description

The Big Lebowski begins with a case of mistaken identity which escalates when Jeffrey Lebowski - alias The Dude - attempts to seek recompense for the despoilation of his ratty-ass little rug, and then finds himself entangled in a kidnapping caper as a bagman - a situation that goes from bad to worse due to the interference of his hapless bowling partners. In The Big Lebowski the Coen brothers have taken on the preoccupations of Raymond Chandler, but have given them a postmodern spin, while at the same time leaving Philip Marlowe's ethos intact as The Dude wanders thorugh the fractured world of nineties LA trying to do the right thing. Like the award-winning Fargo, The Big Lebowski is suffused with a droll humour and a verbal felicity that is as delightful as it is startling.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you loved the film then you'll love this 9 May 2001
By A Customer
If you are, like me, a big fan of this film, then this book is an essential purchase. It kicks off with a great introduction, almost as bizarrely and ironically amusing as the film itself, and then goes on to present the complete script in a simple, easy-to-read format. Thankfully it doesn't overdo things and try and spell out to you what's going on with needless set directions and therefore keeps very well with the casual humour of the film. Pictures from key moments (such as the dream sequences) crop up periodically and will make you chuckle to yourself as you remember your favourite scenes ("Hey, there's a beverage here man!!"). Overall a good laugh to read and just one step shy of actually watching the film itself!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Must! 8 April 1999

This scriptbook is essential to the uncompromising Lebowski fanatic. Great for neighborhood plays too! An easy way to study the simply brilliant use of dialogue found and recycled throughout the film. What's more, the cover image is far out and would make a great poster.

4.0 out of 5 stars An awesome accompaniment for my favorite movie. 11 Jun 2002

Although the words don't match exactly from the book to the movie, due to ad-libbing of the actors, this book is a must-have for any fan of The Big Lebowski. This book will make you laugh as much as the movie did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coen magic 9 May 2007
By Tom Hunter - Published on
The genius of thew Coens captured in this outstanding comedy. The characters, as ever, outdo the narrative, but the quotable lines come close to matching their masterpiece, Raising Arizona. Remember - nobody f#*k with the Jesus!

I own this film and have watched it many times. Still, experiencing the rhythms of the Coen Bros. in the script makes for a great experience.
