Product Description

Product Description

Bristow is eighteenth in line for Chief Buyer and works for the monolithic Chester-Perry Company in the Chester-Perry building. This book commemorates such events as the Great Tea Trolley Disaster of '67, explains what a buying clerk does to keep his or her head down all day, and describes the Hierarchy led by Sir Reginald Chester-Perry (who has even been seen, so we know he exists). Interspersed with the much-loved illustrations is Frank Dickens' text charting the development of a strip cartoon legend.

About the Author

Frank Dickens, 'Young Frank Dickens' to his friends, is the creator of Bristow, which ran the London Evening Standard for 40 years until April 2001. He loves cycling and looks nothing like Bristow.

Bristow is unique, and may be a little bit dated, as most good humour seems to be. Dickens has here omitted the most dated strips and managed to give a wide overview of a past world whilst still keeping the characters very recognisable.
The drawings are all done (or redone) specially for the book, and the publishers have not been kind to them. They look like large images computer scanned at low res and greatly reduced, with the usual loss of detail, making some of the text a little hard to read.
Apologies to Dickens if the images haven't seen a computer... but the print quality was poor.
Great content though.

At long last a recopilation of Bristow's universe. Frank Dickens has triumphed once again in recreating a by-gone age, yet at the same time keeping it very actual. His explanations of the how & why of Bristow and the Chester-Perry organisation are funny and thought provoking. Have not laughed so much in ages. An absolute must for all Bristow fans!
