An interesting compilation of crime fiction authors from yesteryear, including Raymond Chandler.
As you may expect, the writing has to be clever here because of the then obscenity and decency laws of the time, many of these stories are from the classic noir era of the 30's and 40's and the writing and plot structure has to be good because they cannot rely on the unlimited use of what was then prohibited in print - namely sex and violence.
Ideal if you are a crime writer looking for examples of how the greats wrote, the stories are all shorts and average about 8-10 pages here.
If you like LAPD Noir type short stories check out the LAPD Detective 1200 short stories, although set in the 2000's, the stories al have a common thread that they look into previously unsolved crimes, often going back to the 50's and 60's!
