Book Description

28 July 1994

The Bible According to Spike Milligan is an irreverent but very funny spoof of The Old Testament in which, in his own inimitable fashion, Spike Milligan gives his version of the best known biblical stories.

In the Bible, according to Spike Milligan: "In the beginning God created the Heaven and Earth and darkness was upon the face of the deep; this was due to a malfunction at Lots Road Power Station...And God said 'Let there be light'."

'Desperately funny, vivid, vulgar' Sunday Times

'Milligan is the Great God to all of us' John Cleese

'The Godfather of Alternative Comedy' Eddie Izzard

'That absolutely glorious way of looking at things differently. A great man' Stephen Fry

Spike Milligan was one of the greatest and most influential comedians of the twentieth century. Born in India in 1918, he served in the Royal Artillery during WWII in North Africa and Italy. At the end of the war, he forged a career as a jazz musician, sketch-show writer and performer, before joining forces with Peter Sellers and Harry Secombe to form the legendary Goon Show. Until his death in 2002, he had success as on stage and screen and as the author of over eighty books of fiction, memoir, poetry, plays, cartoons and children's stories.

Spike Milligan was born at Ahmednagar in India in 1918. He received his first education in a tent in the Hyderabad Sindh desert and graduated from there, through a series of Roman Catholic schools in India and England, to the Lewisham Polytechnic.

The funniest book I have ever read.

A laugh in every paragraph.

Spike the comedy Guru, at his best.

Definately not for devote Christians.

Don't think about it - get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh-out-loud fun! 22 July 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
There is nothing more embarrassing than sitting at work in my lunch-break reading a book alone in the corner of the canteen and laughing so much that my stomach hurts and I have tears running down my face. My workmates think I'm mad - I love this book!

Spike Milligan - mad, quite mad. Fortunately for us however, his insanity is hilarious, especially when taking a pop at the big guy himself. Yes, it's predictable, but there's nothing wrong with being predictable AND funny. A very entertaining read...

5.0 out of 5 stars Coffie Table 2 Dec 2004
Format:Mass Market Paperback
A brillent, witty and funny book.
This was the first Spike Milligan book that i have read and i have now caught the bug. The book itself is not one to sit down and read for hours on end, but one in which you simply read for thirty minutes or so, spending the whole time in laughter having to reread parts just to laugh over and over again. It is best suited for a bedside or a coffie table, it is currently going round my halls of residents at great speed,a highly recomend book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Spike's best 29 Nov 2013
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Verified Purchase
Funny but Spike was past his best when he wrote this. The feeling is he wrote for the money and not for fun. That's when he was at his best.
