Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

This is where it all started. Forget the sadly misinformed "sex as a weapon" wielded by Foxy Brown and Lil' Kim, forget the platform trainers and mini skirts of the Spices' "Girl Power": Salt 'N' Pepa (and their ever-present DJ, Spinderalla) shot to fame in the male-dominated hip-hop scene of the 1980s, playing the playas at their own game. Without them, there would be no TLC, there would be no Missy Elliot--there might not even be an All Saints. Salt 'N' Pepa made hip-hop from the female perspective: intelligent, sexy and self-assured; these sisters were doing it for themselves. Songs like "Whatta Man", "Let's Talk About Sex", "Do You Want Me" and "Shoop" all infiltrated the upper reaches charts, while their lyrics and attitudes turned them into pop--and even, to an extent, feminist--icons. This Best Of collection features all of their biggest hits, including the supremely catchy "Push It" and the requisite number of updated remixes (which, as is often the case with these things, fail to do the originals much justice). An essential starting point for women in hip-hop, Salt 'N' Pepa were also one of the finest pop crossovers of their time. --Robert Burrow

Whattta a party album! The Best of Salt N Pepa provides endless hours of hopping, bumping and jamming party tunes that are guaranteed to get any party rocking. Salt N Pepa have such a jazzy sound paired with creative, catchy ryhmes that are simply addictive. This album features a collection of their best and most popular songs such as: "Push It ", "Whatta Man (With en Vogue)", "Shake Your Thing", "Let's Talk About Sex", "Shoop" and "Expression". Every song has it's own individual beat, yet they all are equally as stimulating for your dancing feet. I highly recommend this jammin album in order to complete your music collection.
