Oscar Peterson defined the modern mainstream jazz piano style, with albums such as Night Train and We Get Requests providing a template for all other jazz piano trios to follow. He was also a masterful accompanist, working with singers such as Ella Fitzgerald. This two CD collection (two for the price of one) draws on his Verve and Concord recordings, and presents the greatest moments from his back catalogue.

This bargain-price 2-CD set is a splendid selection of tracks from Oscar's long career in jazz. Mainly in trio format (with bass and drums) the balance of tracks embrace duos, with Dizzy Gillespie, and quartets with Joe Pass, Stephan Grappelli and Ben Webster. A must for those new to Oscar and a wonderful memento for those who may have thrown away their old LP's.

Commentary? Why? This is Petersen! You will get what you think when you buy this album. True, there are moments that I wished he'd not made tennis courts noises, but--that's part of the performance. A good album to fill out your Oscar Petersen collection.

Format:Audio CD
Although I have many Oscar Peterson LP's from the 70's and 80's covering his work both as a featured artist and accompanist I realized having listened to the sample tracks I don't have a single CD. I have taped compilations I used to play in the car - really relaxing on a long journey. I will therefore be buying this and probably will make a contribution to the statue that is proposed in Ottawa.

Good to hear his style again
Happy to get this - really brought back memories of yesteryear. Jazz music on the piano is what you might call - relaxing.
