Format:Audio CD
Every so often, if you are lucky, an artist comes along, and you love ALL of their work. For me, it's "The Nez". Hey, I even have a QUAD-8 track of "Loose Salute"!!!
I have virtually everything Mike's done from the Monkees up til now...and this is a GREAT Sounding and GREAT sample of his "Best". Naturally,the hits are here... that great ballad "Joanne", and the brilliant "Silver Moon", but, if you've never heard it, you must check out "Harmony Constant"! I think this might be Mr. Nesmith's greatest song. Those smooth and gentle Nesmith vocals, the tasty guitar, and an absolutely great steel guitar solo by Red Rhodes you won't soon forget. It's like a gentle, refreshing summer breeze. Impeccable! This CD is HIGHLY Recommended! Way to go, Michael! Treat yourself to this wonderful music! You'll love it.

I was pleasantly surprised on listening to this CD. As I often do, I purchased this CD for one track 'Joanne' but found all the tracks to be really good, a mixture of country rock with a couple of country standards. On a couple of tracks, as you would expect, there is a strong connection to The Monkeys. The only drawback with this CD, and that is why I only give it 4 stars, is that one of his biggest solo hits 'Rio' is not included, which I find strange on a 'Best of' Album, none the less this is still a good CD.

A Near-Perfect Nez Primer

Although the track order is a bit odd, this compilation presents the best tracks from four of Nesmith's five RCA albums. "Tantamount to Treason Vol. 1" is represented by "She thinks I still care," one of the album's weakest tracks and, oddly, "Smoke Smoke Smoke," a track only available on the twofer pairing "Tantamount..." with "Nevada Fighter." The atmospheric, somber "In the Afternoon" would have been a much better choice. As for "Nevada Fighter," while his cover of Nilsson's "Rainmaker" is brilliant, Nez' title track is a blistering, raucus bit of genius and is sadly missed here.
