Originally broadcast in May 1951, The Goon Show (the first series went under the name Crazy People) proved an instant smash, pushing the boundaries of comedy far beyond anything encountered before. Over the next nine years The Goon Show became the most talked about radio show of all time and had even enjoyed two Top Ten hit singles. In 1959 the powers that be were persuaded to release an album entitled The Best Of The Goon Shows, which was in effect two edited shows from the long running series. This too proved a success, hitting #8 on the UK charts and spending some 14 weeks on the chart.

Whilst a schoolboy I quickly became addicted to listening to the weekly broadcast of the Goon Shows and was a fan throughout the transmittion years. I bought a tape deck, open spool, and began to record them so I could listen to them whenever I wanted to be amused. I did however miss the musical intervals on the CD's. I still cannot listen to them without bursting out laughing.

I love the Goons and couldn't wait to receive my copy of the DVD. However, when it arrived, I was somewhat disappointed in the sense that I expected them all to be "The Goons" all the time, whereas in fact, there were other dialogues that weren't very "goony".
Overall, the DVD is exceptional value for money, but don't expect to hear the Goons as we know them all the time!

Bought as a present... not my sense of humour any more. However recipient delighted with the CD and keen now to do the silly voices!!
