Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Bros' Best Of showcases arguably the first ever Pop Idols. Pop stars are nothing new but Bros were admittedly manufactured and with their first hit single "When Will I Be Famous?" displayed the naked craving for celebrity that now characterises modern pop culture. But that driving first hit, with its vague house flavour, still stands up, as do other tracks such as the powerful "I Owe You Nothing". What's surprising is that the twins achieved eight Top 10 hits (all contained here)--this in an era when it was truly difficult to reach the high end of the charts. Whether they wrote these songs or indeed sang them has often been a subject of debate. One thing was for sure. As quickly as Bros rose they fell, and, as individuals, swamped in debts and tales of woe. Bros were part of a package of acts made by the wildly successful company PWL, that included Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and many now defunct names (e.g. Sonya). Nearly all relied on a formula of high-pitched vocals, bits of watered down electro and wholesale steals from 60s hits. Bros were the label's signature act with their Aryan looks and glossy style sense and as an example of mainstream pop in the 80s there can be few better examples. --Jake Barnes

People usually remember Bros mainly for their "When Will I Be Famous", "Drop The Boy" & the fantastic "I Owe You Nothing" tracks, however their was a lot more to Bros than the first album, which followed up in the second & third albums "The Time" & "Changing Faces" (Respectively).

From the anthemic "Famous" to the funky gospel inspired "Try" this album has some fantastic tracks on it, tracks such as "Money" & "Changing Faces" that were never singles, however fantastic tracks (Money being a planbned single to be later replaced by Chocolate Box) - the album does definately have some fantastic tracks.

It also shows Matt's fantatsic vocals as a youngster aswell, and both Matt & Luke who are very talented lads, have gone to achieve success (As has Craig by managing Pink & co.. now).

Listen out for the very funky & rocky "Too Much", the infectious "Madly In Love" (Remix) , to the lovely crafted ballad "Are You Mine" - the album really is fantastic value for money (No pun intended lol) & it's a great album to have, wether you want to reminsice, or just basically play loud & enjoy, it's a wicked album & also has a fantastic booklet to go with it.

Check out Matt's latest album "Early Side Of Later" if you want to hear a FANTASTIC album, and see how AWESOME Luke is in the films Blade II, Charlie, The Man & more ... both going on to bring quality material & success.

The "Big Picture DVD" that goes with this is also an amazing item, see my review on that... as it's truly is the "Best Thing Since Sliced Bread" & is highly packaged also with content & goods !!!

FANTASTIC STUFF !!!

Call me sad, but i feel it needs to be said. Bros were not manufactured. Matt definitely sang all the vocals as anyone who's heard him live will agree. And,the biggest insult of all, they certainly were not PWL.Any way, fabulous compilation. All the tracks we Brosettes know and love. Great to have them on c.d after all these years. If you think you're a Bros/Matt Goss fan, you should be ashamed if you don't own this already.

I'd really love it if the Amazon reviewer, Jake Barnes, could get his facts straight. Bros were never a part of the PWL label - Push, the band's first album, was on CBS. Read more
