Biography

The B-52's are most recognisable from their brightly coloured 50-retro look and their unique vocals, mixing the high-pitched melodic harmonies of lead singers Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson with the sprechgesang vocals of frontman Fred Schneider. Formed in early 1977, their eponymous debut album was released in 1978 and quickly gained an underground following, as their new-wave/surf pop ... Read more in Amazon's B-52's Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Rock Lobster,down,down! 13 April 2007
Format:Audio CD
I bought a new copy of this recently, and ,feeling all nostalgic for the wackiness of the 80's,was inspired to give you the privilege of my review!

For superb lunacy value, the B52's can't be beat!Check out the truly loopey Rock Lobster, the stunningly silly ode to hairpieces,(wig)and the inspired Song For A Future Generation!

This band were always original and the feeling I get when freaking out to this can't be beat!

Remember,a little madness now and them is cherished by the wisest man!!

5.0 out of 5 stars B-52s 7 April 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is such an enjoyable feel good album to listen to - the band do not seem to fit a particular genre of music but come over as having a great deal of fun playing catchy music with a great beat to dance to. After 20 years without it, it's good to have the album back in my music collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ecclectic and original, definitely essential! 5 Mar 2002
Format:Audio CD
This is one of their best albums by far, and I'm amazed no-one has reviewed it yet! The whole thing is a bizarre journey through the warped minds of the B-52's, but it's utterly worth it. Standout tracks are "Rock Lobster" & "Planet Claire". If you like the B52's later stuff, you might find this a bit non-commercial for your tastes, but it should be in your collection by rights! A must have for any fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars PRIVATE IDAHO! 23 Jun 2014
By HAYLING BOOK & MUSIC VENUE (HBMV) TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
This collection very neatly ties up the very best of the music from the first part of their career.

This was the band that apparently inspired John Lennon to record again - barmy, wacky lyrics, funky sounds and driving beats make this compilation the perfect introduction to one of America's most entertaining and under-rated bands.

Clever - unique - crazy!

Enjoy.
