I was recently asked to be best man for a mate's wedding and having never been best man before I bought this book to help figure out what was appropriate to say in my speech as well as any other pointers for the day.
The book is superb in its advice for speech writing. Rather than providing a template of what the speech should look like, it provides lots of useful ideas, some do's and don'ts, and a couple of complete sample speeches to provide some inspiration.
In fact, I would probably say it's the do's and don'ts which I found the most useful... understanding who toasts who, who thanks who, the order of speeches etc. In fact, it contains all the stuff which, when as a wedding guest seems to go so smoothly and you ask yourself "How do they know what to do?". Well, the answer's out... they probably bought this book!
So if you've just been asked to be best man... relax, don't worry.. buy this book, and enjoy the honour of being asked.
First up, I should point out I am a biased reviewer. I run a best man speech website, so I have a vested interest in you coming to my website rather than buy this product. On the flip side, because I run a best man speech website and have researched this topic to the end of the earth, I can confidently claim to be a qualified reviewer.
This is the only book that I know of that is specfically about the best man speech and that is to be applauded. There are way too many general best man books out there and they all seem to be padded out with the same banal, common sense observations like "don't forget the ring". The best man speech is important and daunting enough to warrant its own book. The price of this book is also is a big plus - it's very cheap. I think I paid something like £3.
That's the good news. The bad news is that the book has effectively been cobbled together without too much thought and I struggle to see how the best man can fashion a great speech from the advice contained within the book. Nowhere near enough attention has been paid to how to research, structure, write, edit, practise and deliver a world-class best man speech.

I've had two copies of this book now and have to say it's saved me twice over. Great starter and complete speeches to adapt in a clear easy to read format. Ideal!
