The demise of the real-life Chicken Ranch inspired the musical stage play, and now the big screen version stars Burt Reynolds as Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd and Dolly Parton as the Chicken Ranch's propietress, Miss Mona. The two join together not only in romance, but to fight big city TV crusader Melvin P. Thrope in his efforts to expose the Chicken Ranch to public scandal, and thus close it down...
WHAT CAN I SAY?
It was the nicest little whorehouse you ever saw!
THAT IS THE first lines in
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
What more could you ask for in a movie, a heart-warming true story of a simple man and a chesty woman's fight to save their little old chicken ranch, with songs, dancing and dodgy wigs a plenty.Dolly Parton is beautiful and brilliant as miss Mona and Burt Reynolds is perfect as the sheriff. He also stands out here as a man on the edge, desperate to help the woman he loves keep the traditions of the old south going, despite the evangelical TV Christians. If this film didn't have the word "whorehouse" in the title it would have won many Oscars.
THIS Sadly forgotten Big, splashy, fun musical about a whorehouse yet this film is so mush Fun,its tuneful, its good ol'boy 80's at its best ITS One of the most fun and upbeat musicals ever madeThe songs are good and catchy, lines of dialogue stick in your head for years to come, and the film will put a smile on your face. If you want two hours of fun, don't miss it.
