Format:Audio CD
A distillation of the naive charms of the bohemian Bostonian, I Must Be King has got to be the best introduction to Jonathan Richman's work. The title track was used for the first dance at the wedding of a friend of a friend, and is also a hot favourite with my three year old daughter. That's how Jonathan manages to dance daintily between categories and trends, and lambadas with your emotions. Children have an ear for the rhythms and simple words of these songs, unlike poor Vincent Van Gogh, another of Richman's heroes, who didn't have much of an ear for anything. Roadrunner is a rocking delight,(although I've never sorted out what the words are) as is the UFO Man, another hit with our Holly. In fact I've just worked out why I must recommend this record to parents of toddlers everywhere. Imagine a sad, happy, moving and carefree record, as this is in turns, that you can all listen to without the kids making you put Postman Pat or Steps on. Jonathan- such a good name, I gave it to my son.

Format:Audio CD
This is a live album. It doesn't say so anywhere on the packaging or in amazon's product description so you may be disappointed as I was. I'm sure it's a great buy if you want a record of Jonathan playing his greatest hits live but if you want Roadrunner and his other best known songs as they were released on record, this is not the compilation to buy.

There is nothing wrong with each individual song, but the person who arranged this compilation doesn't understand that a CD is for listening. The old Original Modern Lovers songs in demo-quality on this CD spoil the listening of the other tracks.
It's the worst Jonathan Richman compilation ever!
If you like the old live tracks, you can choose between 2 live CD's, but first listen to the album "Modern Lovers".

Format:Audio CD
This is an odd assortment, I wouldn't call it a best-of. Not everything's live; there are three cuts from Jonathan Goes Country... Four cuts are the original Modern Lovers, and, not having absolutely everything by JR right now, I'm not sure if all those cuts have been released elsewhere. But I think the cuts that might be unique to this CD are The Neighbors, Velvet Underground, The Girl Stands Up to Me Now, Fender Stratocaster, and That Summer Feeling. The run times are a bit different from the studio versions I have. And since this is such a slapped-together collection, I doubt that extra effort was put into finding unique, different versions.
Live versions by Jonathan are always somewhat different from their studio counterparts, so if you love that about him, you'll want to get this.
I gave this 4 stars because there's absolutely no info on the CD other than song titles and writing credits. And, as someone else hinted, there's not much thought given to which songs were chosen or how they were ordered on the CD. But, if you're just wanting a sampler of JR's 80s-90s stuff, it will do you well.

This Cd is Awesome! Raw with mostly live tracks makes this Cd unique.
Johnathan's Velvet Underground influence, mixed with his own style
is a real treat for people who are looking for an Alternative Sound.
Summer Feeling, Corner Store, And Pablo Picaso are amungst a few
of my favorite's. This Cd has quite a few tracks on it and may be
aliitle rough in the beginning, but I'm sure you'll find yourself
putting it in your player more often then you thought you would
when you first heard it.
