Well, you couldn't pay much less, could you? The presentation of this CD reflects this too. The insert contains only songwriting credits for information, revealing that the band wrote most of their own stuff, though often by plundering a traditional tune. The sound quality isn't too clever either. I have a copy of the 'Rocking Goose' single and it doesn't sound as muddy as the recording on this disc. As far as the music is concerned, the band enjoyed several hits, led by distinctive organ melodies and funked up by sax, guitar and jumping drums. Their most exciting track is probably 'Crossfire', which sounds like a precursor to fast surf numbers like 'Misirlou', but as ever the sound quality blunts it. As for their cover of 'The Sheik Of Araby', it comes complete with vinyl-style crackles which leads you to wonder what method was used to transfer these recordings to CD. Perhaps an example of getting what you pay for.
