Book Description

13 Sep 2007
The Best of Grade 2 comprises pieces selected by the major examination boards in one volume, which have captured the imaginations of teachers and students over the years, including some old favourites and some forgotten gems. All the pieces are tried and tested and perfectly graded and fingered for Grade 2. This book also provides top-quality music that is ideal as a sight-reading resource for more advanced students. The music has been carefully selected and edited by Anthony Williams, a leading ABRSM piano examiner and selector. There are five books in the series Best of Grade... for piano and a similar series exists for Flute (selected and edited by Sally Adams), and Clarinet (selected and edited by Paul Harris).

Product Description

Every teacher and pupil have favourite pieces in their yearly programmes and Anthony Williams has certainly made excellent choices in these new compilations from old, forgotten examination syllabuses. There are five separate volumes, one for each grade, with twenty of the old favourites in each of grades 1, 2 and 3. These pieces usually disappear into oblivion once out of date, with new generations of pupils unable to experience the thrills and deligths of ten years worth of fun repertoire. Now, they are able to relive many old favourites as well as forgotten gems in their early days of piano lessons. Although selected by grades, the entire collection would make excellent sight reading material for more advanced players. --Piano Professional Magazine, Summer 2008

All these pieces are tried and tested favourites of exam-takers, so whatever your tastes you're statistically bound to find a motivating choice. These volumes can be strongly recommended as repertoire books. --Pianist Magazine, May 2008

This has a good variety of pieces - and as I've just completed my Grade 2 they are good pieces to have a go at!

4.0 out of 5 stars Some lovely pieces... 21 Aug 2013

...for someone like me who did grade 2 about a hundred years ago and has taken up the piano again recently. I just wish this book came with a CD like the exam piece books. It's a help to be able to hear them first, so you know which ones you'd love to be able to play. Out of this selection I particularly love the Romanze and the Study in F - not so keen on the jazzy modern ones but I'm sure others would enjoy them.
