Product Description

Your doctor gives you medical advice. Your mother buys you baby clothes. But who can give you the real story when you're pregnant? Your best frends, of course - at least, the ones who've been through the exhilaration and exhaustion, the agony and ecstasy of pregnancy. Now, in this newly revised and updated edition, get the lowdown on all those little things that are too strange or embarrassing to ask, practical tips, and hilarious takes on everything pregnant. From learning that you're expecting ('Oh my God, how do I get out of this?') to the day your newborn arrives ('You mean I have to take it home with me?'), Iovine gives you the low-down on: What Really Happens to Your Body -- from morning sickness and gas to eating everything in sight The Many Moods of Pregnancy - why you're so irritable/distracted/ tired/light-headed (or at least more than usual). Staying Stylish - cautionary style tips from your best friend, who really would tell you if your perky new-mum haircut makes you look like a pinhead whale Pregnancy Is Down to a Science - from in vitro fertilization to scheduled C-section, the latest technology provides so many options, alternatives, and tests, it can all be downright confusing...and much more!

This is so, so bad 14 Oct 2011
By Barbi
Format:Paperback
Hi mummies (and daddies)
I am currently 11 weeks pregnant and have just finished reading this book.
Ok, this is the situation:
Firstly it's so American. To be clear, like many Brits, I'm in a little obsessed with the States, however, sometimes it's just plain irritating. An example 'If you think that, what kind of turnip truck did you fall off!'
I can imagine that some would enjoy the over the top, funny in parts and trying too damn hard to be funny in others, way of writing, in fact it's why I picked it up, but it became annoying after a couple of pages.
Secondly, the overall feel of the book is alike to one might get at a stand up comedy show (one of my very worst nightmates)one of the main problems with this is as she focuses so much on (proudly & knowingy) being an in-your-face, no nonsene mum- she leaves us feeling pretty uninspired.
According to Vicki we have the following to look forward to;
Saggy empty boobs
A husband (or Wife) who is irritaed by us AND doesn't find us attractive. She also believes men shouldnt be forced to go the antenatal classes and such events. PLEASE. My partner is female but extremely boyish and not into anything femenine but she will be at ALL these things with me as this baby is OURS.
She also really forces epidurals down our throats and puts down women who have natural births. She suggests wine in the evening to keep you calm through pregnany. Both these things are a huge matter of opinion and she needed to be far more careful.
Back to the sexist thing, she 'GUARANTEES' we'd sooner chuck out nappies given as gifts with pink on them, than ever put them on our sons. Good God is she serious- my newborn couldn't care less what colour he/she poops in as nether do I.
She focused an entire chapter on how amazing your hair and nails become, but mine (and my others) have become dry and crap, so that needed to be fixed.
The reason I gave it 2 and not 1 is because it's nice reading a book on pregnancy from a woman who has been pregnant, so many are not. It's also funny in parts.
Happy Pregnancy ladies x

love Vicky 25 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
My friend gave me this when I was pregnant and I bought the next one for baby's first year myself because it's so good. You spend so much time reading up about the baby, it's nice to read something talking you through how you might feel about all manner of things yourself. Made me laugh out loud several times. I recommend this to anyone, and also wish I could get my other half to read it!

Not very realistic 13 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback
This is quite an entertaining read however if it is not very realistic - she seems to exist in a world of yummy mummies with an endless supply of money - which of course is not the case for everyone - therefore her advice is often impractical. It is also very American - so many of the things she talks about don't really apply in the UK.
