The objective of purchasing this CD was to have a good listen to Arabsque No.1.(I am going to learn this composition;and it is a very good guide)
This is played by Kara Komendi and is absolutely fabulous as is her playing
of No.2.She is a quite wonderful pianist.
This CD was worth every penny.The remaining compositions are beautifully
played orchistrations.

Simply brilliant piano music, perfect for relaxing on the lawn with a fuan in the afternoon.

`It is unnecessary for music to make people think...it would be enough if it made them listen'. Claude Debussy.
This Naxos CD is aimed at the beginner or occasional classical music listener and aims to provide a cross section of the entire works of Debussy on a single CD of around one hour duration. It's difficult of course to achieve a satisfactory representation of a composer's lifetime achievements in such short time, but this CD does achieve its aim in that it offers an affordable introduction to Debussy which may enable the listener to either pursue these works further, or simply to collect the entire Naxos `Best Of' range.
If the intention is to collect the series it will provide a good, although slightly abbreviated, library of classical music. Those requiring further listening are helped by the sleeve notes which give recommended further listening (all Naxos label CD's of course!).
It should be noted that the Naxos 2CD `Very Best Of' releases offer slightly better value than the single CD versions in this `Best Of' series.
That said, this is a good introduction to classical music for those on a careful budget.

Excellent Introduction to Debussy

Claude Debussy is an acquired taste even among regular classical music listeners, which also means he does not have many "greatest hits", a kind of Beethoven Ninth Symphony or Ravel's Bolero, pieces almost everyone knows.
That said, this NAXOS collection does not break from uniformity of being a very good sampler of a composer's most representative works for a bargain price. On this CD, orchestral works with their eerie, otherworldly quality (the opening La Mer movement is a great example) are interspersed with smaller piano works, for which the French impressionist composer is also known. Clair de Lune, as maybe Debussy's best known piece, cannot be left out (in orchestral version). The orchestral recordings are mostly done by the Belgian radio&TV, while solo pianos are played by Hungarians, including the great Jeno Jando.
