As a concertina beginner, I desperately hope the title isn’t true, because this book has a lot less to offer then its size and price would suggest. To be fair on the publishers, the cover provides some indication of what’s inside, but the cover image wasn’t available on the Amazon web site and I hereby declare that I shall never again purchase something with so little information.
Anyway, not all the failings are admitted. Only inside do we learn that the book is for the 20-key “German or Anglo-Saxon instrument” (actually the Anglo-German or ‘Anglo’) only, and the existence of other types of concertina is barely conceded.
Basically it’s just a few instructional pages, including one of ‘Elementary Music Principles’, padded out with sixty-odd pages of standard tunes. The instruction is rudimentary with very little on harmonies and chords and nothing on fingering technique. Nothing on method, in fact, despite the title. Only three songs are presented with chords - Tavern in the Town, O Sole Mio and The Cruel war is Raging - and all are in major keys, as are the extremely restricted left hand exercises.
Of the tunes, few are concertina tunes as normally played. There are few jigs or reels but a lot of songs and slow stuff that would be best harmonised. Would anyone want to play ‘The Entertainer’ melody only? No-one would ever want to listen to it, that’s for sure. Some tunes, such as The Battle Hymn of the Republic, are in twice which again suggests that this is just a couple of half-helpful pages lazily stuck onto an existing melody compilation
The book will be of help to an absolute beginner who can’t get anything else.

I'm a multi-instrumentalist and music teacher and wanted to get started learning a new instrument and failed miserably with this pathetic book.
Got this book second hand...
This is seriously the worst teaching method i've ever seen in my life.
Even an experienced musician cannot possibly get started learning with this book.

There's no chart for fingering and you would have no clue which finger to use for which note, and which note for which button.

The Worst Concertina Method...that's the correct name of the book

This is a book of music alright if you can read music. It is not for someone like me who is a complete beginner. Don't waste your money.!

if this is the best, i'd hate to see the worst...this book is completely unhelpful. it doesn't explain anything at all about playing the instrument...just a collection of (rather obscure) American folk music. a waste of time.
