It's 1997, my TV's switched on and I'm watching MTV. A song is just starting, but the name hasn't appeared yet. I hear a very low hum, which starts picking up a beat and a beach appears... The title of the song and artis come up, one that i have never heard before but that will mark a new era in music history: Chicane - Saltwater.
It blew me away. i still remember seeing the woman on the beach (from a bird's eye kind of view) and the sun reflected on the sand & water. The beat, the melody, the tune, it was AWESOME and i could not cope without the CD! Before all my cd's got stolen (at gatwick airport FYI) i had all the Chicane CD's.
When I saw this CD advertised the other day I was astonished, I actually leaped up from the sofa and shouted "CHICANE!!!! THAT'S MY FAVOURITE DJ!" and my girlfriend just nodded, wondering what i was on. Clearly, I bought the CD and now she listens to it more than I do.
Even though this is an awesome compliation, the other CD's remain a must have for two reasons: 1) they're all awesome, and 2) anyone who likes this sort of music respects Chicane and will want to have every piece of work this man has ever published.

Chicane ( Nick Bracegirdle ) has been with us for 11 years ( as Chicane anyway! )His music has the ability to move your head, your heart and your soul, while foot tapping !!! With this, his 1st compilation, you get the classics, never before released tracks ( easy to assemble !!! ) and remixes, plus a new track with keane on vocals.
Nick's music has been a part of my life for so long, he has a way to lift you up, inspire, dust you off and send you on your way anew.
Sometimes subline, sometimes full pelt - but always beautifully crafted !
Please know that you are going to be listening to songs that never fade, will become part of your journey, as it has become a part of mine, for so long.
( I recommend chicane, as well as faithless, enigma, schiller, deep forest, atb - Its your life, just find the right soundtrack to it !!!

Format:Audio CD
I saw this advertised on TV and having loved a couple of songs like "Don't Give Up" and "Saltwater" I thought I would buy this.
I was not disappointed.
The versions of the songs are ever so slightly different from the ones I already own as I think they may have been remastered on this CD.
If you like this style/genre of music this is the CD to get.
Classic ambient chillout.
A few mentions (apart from the two above) - "Halcyon", "Bruised Water" & "Spirit".

Not really a 'Best Of' compilation...more of commercially sellable tracks.

The Best of Chicane 1996 - 2008
If you are into this type of genre in music you will not be disapointed. Excellent music with versions of songs you may not have heard before e.g. Don't Give it Up and Saltwater.
