Product Description

In The Valley Below are duo Angela Gail and Jeffrey Jacob from Echo Park in LA. Delivering hushed swirls of male and female vocals forged with dark stories of brooding romance.

Guardian - 'Listening to Stand Up by LA-based duo In the Valley Below, it feels as though we're reviewing something that already entered the charts yesterday at No 7 or something. It has that sort of staccato catchiness, that emphatic infectiousness. It's a Haim of a hit, a swirling, sultry jangle worthy of the Bangles, pure West Coast perfection that posits Angela Gail and Jeffrey Jacob as a latterday Buckingham-Nicks, if they were into brooding electronic pop and dressing as moody Pioneers.'

Brilliant debut album by a new group from Los Angeles. Saw them live supporting White Lies and was very impressed. This album demonstrates the beautiful melodic vocals of 2 very talented artists.

A Chance Listen: Discovering Local Artists 14 May 2014

I was very lucky to stumble onto this band, having found out that they were playing a bunch of free shows in my area. Curious to see what kind of act today would purposely sacrifice profits over the prospects of performing, I checked out one of their more popular singles, "Peaches", and was immediately captured by the driving guitar riffs. "Peaches" doesn't take itself so seriously, sending the listener to a spacious field of dreamy, dance-y rhythms--a little eccentric, catching your interest with tickling percussion and electronics, but just fun and accessible enough to let loose in a world where everything seems ethereal and much sweeter.

Oh, yeah, and the show was a hell of a time, too. I don't regret purchasing this album at all. I just wish it was easier to buy, as it seems the only way is to purchase an imported copy if you want something physical. A LP seems hard to come by in the US.

In the Valley Below is reminiscent of atmospheric artists such as Beach House and Chairlift, just with slightly pop-ier harmonies; if you like a similar sort of sound, please give this band a shot. If you don't, give them a shot anyway.

Favorites are "Neverminders", "Last Soul", "Dove Season", "Take Me Back", "Lover", and "King Tide".

Found these guys by accident while looking for some other music. The first song I heard was the opening track "Peaches" which was plenty enough to catch my interest. After sampling some more of the album I decided to go ahead and buy it.

Overall thoughts: Opening two tracks are amazing. The 2nd song "Neverminders" is even better than the first one. From there the album dips a bit. Though not to say it isn't still good, but instead of "amazing" the rest of the album is more "ok" to "good." Give the first two songs a full listen (youtube them), and if you like what you hear you won't regret buying the full album. I know I didn't.

Amazing album... So many excellent tracks led by "Peaches" and "Dove Season." It is remarkable that the band can carry its unique sound from start to finish without any track losing its way.

Great Album! I bought it for one song that I've heard on the radio, but fell in love with the rest of the album too!
