I love this book - it's fantastic, particularly when it's so hard to find a pregnancy journal that's suitable whether it's your first, second or more pregnancies. It's also the first I've seen that even has the option to record a home birth rather than hospital.

If you're looking for something that's funny too then this is a must - it's not cutesy at all, but has sections for each trimester that says "I've been seriously jonesin' for" where you list the food you've loved and then "The thought of eating this is totally repulsive". Hilarious sections like "Honey can you please come hold back my hair: all the fun and gory details about morning (noon?)(night?) sickness" and "Scooter, Champ & Mr Bubble: inexplicable belly/baby nicknames".

The design of the book is lovely, it has curved pages that get wider for each trimester like a belly outline. It also has a section where you put a weekly photo of your belly so you get a timelapse effect of belly growth which is fun. It's a bit silly to start from week 1 but you could put pictures of yourself from then before you knew you were pregnant. As it's spiral bound you can also rip out any pages you don't want without it showing.

I would definitely get this book again for subsequent pregnancies, I think it's brilliant and it is actually a journal in that you can write how you're feeling week by week, with occasional prompts on some weeks like "more things I miss from life-before-the-belly: _walking sans waddle, _my lap, _normal undies"!

As a first pregnancy I was soooo excited and bought pretty much everything I could find in my first month!
I decided to go with The Belly Book as I liked the way it seemed to grow with the belly - inside, the pages grow with each trimester - just like your own tummy! Immediately I found it strange that the first week listed is a week that you wouldn't even know that you're pregnant while asking if you knew if you were pregnant at this point...impossible! There is a photo box for each week of pregnancy to show your tummy (or whatever else you chose). I didn't start my book until week 7 but I like the way that each week you have different pages. For example week 7 is just a notes page where you can write down how you feel and week 8 asks what your complexion is like (glowing or green) and then a note section to write some welcome or not so welcome changes. This has been useful for those occasions of 'Baby Brain' where you just can't think what day or the week it is let alone what to write in a pregnancy journal!
The book is obviously written for an American audience but the pages can be ripped out without causing any damage to the book. For example the third trimester has a page for baby shower with who came and what gifts you got and there are lots and lots of pages for scans. As another reviewer mentioned in the UK we get 2 routine scans in pregnancy unless you are classed as high risk or if there could be a problem.
The book has some humour and is well presented with some useful questions that you'd probably not think about had they not been asked but I wish there was more room for writing on each page instead of taking up over half a page with space for a photo - you have to be very disciplined with a good memory to remember to take a photograph of your tummy every week!

fun, simple, space for writing notes throughout the pregnancy
perfect for my third child, but for my first, I preferred something bigger, more detailed, more informative. this book is not for writing long essays about your pregnancy. it goes straight to the point!
