The Bells Of 1 2 is the debut outing from the heart and mind of Sophie Michalitsianos aka Sol Seppy. Wimbledon born, New York based and former Sparklehorse collaborator embraced the roles of writer, performer, engineer and producer to deliver one of the most enchanting debuts of 2006.
Following appearances on Sparklehorse albums such "Good Morning Spider" and "Its Wonderful Life" and then being invited to support Radiohead across America, Sophie Michalitsianos returned to her Catskill, New York home to produce the beautiful and bewitching debut "The Bells of 1 2".With a sound that is distinct and fresh but equally warm and familiar, Sophie has called upon her multi-instrumental talents and alluring vocals to form a sound that swoops from the celestial to the downright grungy. Inhabiting a space between Hope Sandoval and Bjork, Sol Seppy will be one of the most striking female artists to emerge from 2006…

Sophie Michalitsianos, who is Sol Seppy, is probably best known for her guest vocal duties with Sparklehorse. On "The Bells of 1 2" however, she has wrote every note on a beautiful and finely crafted record. A classically trained pianist and cellist, her classical grounding is the backdrop for her enchanting vocals, especially on track "Human", which is not unlike Cat Power at her innermost moments. But there are times after the initial burst of introspection that the pace picks up a little. On track "Come Running", a driving bass line with a retro keyboard line adds some much needed zest. On "Move" we have some phat beats, over which Michalitsianos sings in a distorted voice over chromatic Velvet Underground-esque grating violins, which add a further incisiveness. 'The Bells of 1 2' is an ethereal and fervent album, and one that should keep Cat Power and Emilliana Torinni firmly on their toes.

Former Sparkelhorse collaborator is in fine form here - a debut to cherish.
There is a twisted, dark feel, similar to Steve Adey's All Things Real and Sylvian's recent Nine Horses. Wonderland sounds close to Kate Bush and elsewhere Bjork and Goldfrapp are recalled, but Seppy has an original conviction that is sure to deliver many strong albums. She also multitasks convincingly - playing, producing, recording. Seppy is in a world of her own here. A beautifully debut.

I loved this on the first listen 2 years ago and still have to listen to it at least once a week.
Beautiful soundscapes, a haunting ethereal voice and the most gorgeous melodies. Two songs in particular will blow you away every time you hear them... the first 'Slow Fuzz' and the second 'Enter One'.
In my top 10 albums of all time!
