This little book was recommended to me by an experienced beekeeper who told me that it was one of the books she uses most often. It is not written as a manual for beekeeping but as a reference book which can be taken in your pocket when visiting hives. It is sturdily bound for the purpose.
Part A helps you to identify the problem you are faced with and then gives suggestions for manipulations which can overcome the problem. These are clearly explained and there are diagrams or photographs. Part B is a guide to the diagnosis of pests and diseases and is clearly illustrated with colour photographs. Part C gives a checklist for apiary management. Part D is the Beekeepers Ready Reckoner with the bee development charts, figures needed for calculating winter feed, weights and measures, conversion charts, and varroa mite number calculations. The book is fully referenced and has suggestions for further reading. It has been very thoughtfully and clearly put together and I would recommend this book very highly.

Even though I have kept bees commercially for many years in South America and New Zealand and consider myself an experienced bee farmer I still find this small field guide an essential accompaniment in the apiary. There is always something I need to refer to and this book has a solution to just about every problem you will come across or a reference to jog your memory, and the beekeepers ready reckoner is excellent. There is no other beekeeping field guide written that I know of and there is no need for one as this one covers it all. Very highly recommended for hobbyist and commercial beekeepers as an essential reference in the field.

Have kept bees for many years and have a number of useful books but this one, with its spiral binding and practical guidance is really very good. Have used it to explain items to novice bee keepers and those interested in beekeeping - and learnt a few tips too!
