Review

James Cooper's stories are original, clever and daring. Clearly a writer to watch. --Graham Joyce (author of "The Facts of Life")

[James Cooper] is intent on stepping inside his characters, instead of simply describing them from the outside. He calibrates his effects instead of going for shocks. He's clearly fascinated by the mournful realities (and dream-states) of life and death. It's been quite a while since I've encountered stories like this, tales that ignore topical tastes in favour of a strange view of humanity that's timeless, classical, and mysteriously sad. --Christopher Fowler (from his foreword)

From the Publisher

A brand-new collection of twelve horror tales from James Cooper. His second collection comes complete with a foreword from the Award-Winning Master of Urban Horror Christopher Fowler!

James Cooper is another great new talent in the world of darkly atmospheric fiction. His writing is crisp, clear and effective; he has a powerful ability when it comes to generating unsettling feelings in the reader. This is a book you won't forget in a hurry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Review 15 Feb 2011
By The Pampered Lamb - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Here you will find 12 stories. Some are scary, some are frightening and the rest won't let you sleep. One of my favourite stories is "Albion". Here we visit 8 houses on different streets and get a glimpse as to what goes on inside.

James Cooper has mastered "The Cringe". You know, you read a story and wonder, what's so scary about this? And then it slaps you so hard you have no choice but to cringe. As I was reading these stories, I actually found myself nervous to continue. What is he going to throw at me next? A twelve year old that still nurses, that's what. Before that, the story was so sweet and innocent.

All the stories in the book are well written and will be loved by all that appreciate horror and awkward, cringe-worthy moments.
