Biography

With its play on words, Vice Verses, the title of Switchfoot’s new album, coherently suggests the album’s theme: everything has two sides. “Every blessing comes with a set of curses,” singer-guitarist Jon Foreman sings on the title track, all the while wondering if “there’s a meaning to it all.” That theme runs through the album’s 12 songs and is even reflected in the album’s black and white… Read more in Amazon's Switchfoot Store

Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Contemporary Christian music has come a long way toward secular acceptance in recent years thanks to the likes of Switchfoot, Jars of Clay and Creed, who avoid obvious sacred references in their lyrics. It's also refreshing to hear CCM songwriters like Switchfoot's Jonathan Foreman explore love and belonging as song subjects. Foreman's songwriting on The Beautiful Letdown shows potential, and his progressive vision for spiritual themes indicates a willingness to colour outside the lines. --Matthew Cooke

I bought this album after hearing 'Dare you to Move' and 'This is Your Life' and 'Mean't to Live'. These 3 tracks alone reveal the variety of this album, with some powerful slow songs and some strong rocky sounds. This album is one that can be played over and over, you can't get enough. The lead singers voice is gorgeous, and I strongly recommend this album, the others are good too...

This is brilliant! 3 Jan 2008

For me this cd is about as good as Learning to Breathe (which is awesome too). If you don't like that album you might like this it is a bit different. It is a variation of alt rock that is defo not boring or samey and they have a billiant balance of feeling, tecnhical skill, and originality.

The only one minor criticism I have is that the new "Dare You To Move" is uncannily similar to the original apart from a few different drum and vocal motifs and a slight change in guitar sounds. But who cares? Its an awesome song anyway!

They have included some great lyrics which are not overtly Christian as in contemporary worship like Tim Hughes or Hillsong United. There is, of course, a place for both.

So I would definitely recommend this album, in which all the songs are 4 & 5 * (mostly 5s!)

Brilliant 6 Sep 2004

I once wrote that Supernatural by DC Talk was perhaps the greatest Christian rock album in existence. If there was one album which could have turned me into a liar it would be this one. Song after song is packed with more riffs, passion and melody than the one before. It also spawned the hit single Meant To Live which broke into the secular music charts and featured heavily on the Kerrang TV playlist. The lyrics are not overtly Christian, but each one has a discernible moral conscience. If there were to be a criticism of this album is the lack of backing vocals. The sound could be fuller with them. And they also don't believe in guitar solos but i guess whether thats good or bad is up for debate. If i have one tip it's turn it up to eleven.
