Product Description

John, Paul, George and Ringo - four lads who shook the world. They played, they recorded, they conquered the planet.... And they did it all in the space of a decade. This is an all new documentary special tells the true story of The Beatles from humble beginnings in Liverpool, to the break-up of the biggest band in the world. Their story is told for the very first time using original rare film and video of the band, including home-movies, concert footage, newsreels and photographs from private collections. There are also interviews with those who surrounded the band, and those who were there from the very start. Also included is an exclusive interview with fan and star in his own right, Phil Collins. This documentary is an honest account of what really happened. For the first time we can see The Beatles relaxed, at play, on and off stage, on film, and is a rare glimpse inside the lives of the most famous band in the world. With additional contributions from: Phil Collins, Steve Harley, Norman Hurricane Smith Colin Hanton (their first drummer) Sam Leach (tour manager) Tony Barrow (press officer 1962-1968), Tony Bramwell (friend and roadie), Ken Dodd, Tony Booth Gerry Marsden, Len Goodman Sylvie Varten. Extra's Extended interviews

Non-Beatles cocktail 12 May 2010
Format:DVD
Okay, we all love the Beatles, so do I. Otherwise we would not review this Beatles DVD. But wait! This DVD is no Beatles DVD at all. It's a shame. See some people who appear to know the Beatles talking in the foreground, at the same time covering George's head in a movie playing in the background. And while the Beatles play their songs, the DVD plays music kind of resembling the Beatles' music. License fees saved.

And the Extras: Interviews with Colin Hanton, Gerry Marsden, Len Goodman, Phil Collins 1, Phil Collins 2, Phil Collins 3, Steve Harley, Tony Barrow, Tony Booth. Where are the "home movies, personal photographs, private memorabilia & recently rediscovered film" promised on the DVD cover? Right, in the background, mostly. Why is the stepfather of Tony Blair qualified to be on the DVD? Not clear. Why even Phil Collins 1 - 3? Because he is famous and loves the Beatles? Ok, he is one of us, but is that a qualification?

My recommendation to you Amazon customers: Do not buy, it's not worth it, at no price. My recommendation to the publisher. Redo it, take the original Beatles movies to the foreground, put the talking heads in little boxes. Then put the original movies as Extras in full length on DVD. And play at least some seconds of any Beatles song related to the movie playing. Then it may be a buy.

This is a great new dvd which contains unseen rare material of the fab four at work and play. Intercut with anecdotes from such people as Phil Collins, Gerry Marsden, Tony Booth and for the knowing Beatles fan Tony Barrow, this is a fascinating documentary style film which explores the boys early days. The celebrities tell their own stories of their memories which are quite fascinating, Tony Booths stories are amazingly funny, and the footage of the band is truly wonderful. A must for all ages this is really excellent value for money, and Im sure even the most die hard Beatles fan will have learnt something new about them before the end. Well produced and packaged it really is a great buy. A big thumbs up for the production team as they have produced a well thought out item which differs to so many bland products on sale currently. This is new and exciting. Now where is that copy of Sgt. Pepper.............

This is a great DVD but DON'T BUY THE OLD 'LIBERATION' RELEASE - GET THE NEW RELEASE OF THE SAME NAME FROM 'WIENERWORLD'!!

Buyers beware that one of the versions listed on Amazon is the obsolete version released by liquidated distributor Liberation! Liberation in the UK went bust owing millions. So if it doesn't play, no good complaining as this version is sold with no guarantee behind it. However, the good news is that a NEW version is available released by the reliable and honest distributor 'Wienerworld'.

The new version is much better and contains a clearer and better booklet. You can buy it at

DVD
A bit disappointed as no real depth to the documentary, and no proper interviews or music from the Beatles. May be unoffical as no Beatle songs are played in full.

Good, but not that good!
The most annoying thing about these unauthorised reviews is the crappy, elevator-like non-Beatles music to save some money - or would you buy a Jaguar with a Hyundai engine?? Read more
