5.0 out of 5 stars Beware! 29 July 2010
By Neil C
Please be aware - this book is exactly the same as The Beatles Literary Anthology - the only difference is it is paperback. The publishers have called it a first printing, conveniently forgetting that they published it five years earlier under a different title. So, if you already own the Literary Anthology, don't buy this one too as it is word for word the same.

That said, it is a fine collection of writings about The Beatles. For hardened fans, or those with extensive Beatles libraries, it will still provide an entertaining assortment of (in most cases) familiar writings into which to dip in spare moments. The likelihood is you will have most of the items elsewhere in your collection already, but this is a convenient anthology of them. For others, it will provide some fascinating insights into what being a Beatles, or being with or near the Beatles, was like, and the whole circus that surrounded them.

In short, if you have the Beatles Literary Anthology, DON'T BUY THIS!! If you haven't, then it's well worth the money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bits and pieces from other books 21 Oct 2009
By Emilio - Published on Amazon.com
Most of this book is made up of excerpts from other Beatles-related books: six pages from the Hunter Davies biography, eleven pages from "The Pete Best Story", four pages from "Love Me Do", four pages from "All You Need is Ears" and so on. Would you buy a greatest hits compilation that included only a few seconds of each song? Would you buy a DVD that contained only theatrical trailers or "best scenes" from different movies? I give this book three stars as a sort of compromise. It does have a few complete articles (like the famous Maureen Cleave piece featuring Lennon's "more popular than Jesus" statement) and it might serve as a sampler for the newbie Beatles reader to decide which books to buy. Perhaps the editor's intention was to tell the Beatles' story by putting together bits and pieces from different writers. It may be an interesting idea, but this is far from "a must have book for every Beatles fan" as the back cover reads. A real fan would rather read the best books in their entirety. I have eleven of the ones excerpted here. Even the interviews are incomplete.
