Product Description

Product Description

There was rich praise for the original edition of "The Beatles Stories Behind The Songs Book", including Steve Matteo in "The Music Paper" describing it as 'One of the most readable and illuminating books ever written about The Beatles'. In his autobiography, "Many Years From Now", even Paul McCartney acknowledged Steve Turner's work. Who was 'just seventeen' and made Paul's heart go 'boom'? Was there really an Eleanor Rigby? Steve Turner shatters many well-worn myths and adds a new dimension to the Fab Four's rich legacy by investigating the events immortalised in The Beatles' music and now occupying a special niche in popular culture's collective imagination.

About the Author

Steve Turner is the author of The Man Called Cash: The Life, Loves and Faith of an American Legend, Trouble Man: The Life and Death of Marvin Gaye, The Gospel According to the Beatles, Van Morrison: Too Late to Stop Now and Cliff Richard: Bachelor Boy. He has written for a wide range of publications, including leading US music magazine Rolling Stone and the New Musical Express in the UK.

The book has good stories about the songs, not very detailed... but has enough information.

Pretty well essential reading for anyone who is interested in Beatles' music or the lads themselves. Details are excellent and well written. Use the 'surprise me' option in 'Look Inside' for some examples.

If, on the other hand, you also want detailed information about recording techniques and the intricacies of the Beatles' musical construction and invention, then the undoubted 'bible' in this respect is Ian MacDonald's book. There are one or two editions available, but here's one link as a starter:

Revolution in the Head: The Beatles' Records and the Sixties
