My initial introduction to "The Beard" was a couple of years ago, through a friend and i haven't looked back since.I had the pleasure of seeing Spocks support Dream Theater in 2000 and was not disappointed,as live the band seem to REALLY enjoy stretching their material{a great Prog Trait},so the opportunity to add a Live sample of the band was quickly taken up on the release of this album ,the album includes all the tracks from the bands first album "The Light"plus{amongst others} a very spirited version of Jimi's "Fire". My first impression was one of dismay as i felt the production was TOO raw,as Alan Morse's guitar seemed to really struggle in the mix{one of my favourite innovative players}how wrong i was, as with all the best albums, this live offering burns into your mind after 3 to 4 listenings, opener "The Light"starts with subtle piano, before building into a wonderful typically SPOCKESQUE melodic recurring theme. My favourite thing about this band is their ability to make new tracks seem instantly recognisible but with each play you are guaranteed to hear something new.The whole vibe of this album is that although the music is complex it always remains melodic and as mentioned the band are really enjoying themselves. For evidence of this check out "The Water" 23.12 minutes of Prog Heaven.Do yourself a big favour "The Beard Is Out There" Check Them Out

Excellent recording for a "bootleg" 28 Oct. 2010

This is not an official ALBUM, rather is is an official BOOTLEG. Don't let that scare you off though, it's very well recorded. All the instruments/vocals come through clearly and the recording quality is quite good as well.

A bit of a warning though, this album is basically "The Light" live from start to finish with a couple of extra songs tacked on. ("Thoughts" from the second album and "Waste Away/Fire" - a Jimi Hendrix cover.) Now I KNEW this was "The Light" live before I ordered it. In fact, that's WHY I ordered it. Spock's Beard groupies know that "The Light" is the bands first, and arguably best album. For those of you Pink Floyd fans, think of this as "Is There Anybody Out There?", which is a performance of "The Wall" in it's entirety. Personally, I'm a sucker for live albums, so that's why I got this. I've always thought "If you can't play your music live (and play it WELL), you're not a 'real' band." "The Beard Is Out There" is indeed proof that Spock's Beard IS in fact capable of playing their complex music live.

Admittedly this album is probably only for die-hard Spock's Beard fans, but it's worth the money in my book. (Got mine for about $11)

Thanks for reading. Hope this helped...
Very good early Beard from Progfest '95. 17 Feb. 2015

Good recording quality - much better than the Progfest '95 video on youtube. "The Light" is fantastic.
Also has an early live version of Thoughts. Only thing I didn't like was the "FU" part in the song from the first album.
