Admittedly, the idea of a bear finding a manuscript, and heading off to the big city with dreams of 'making it' sounds like it would need a great leap of faith, but it really works. It's simply written, without conceit. A 'modern-day parable', but such a name sells it short. It's not just a humourous version of 'The Pearl', but it's strangely almost a grown-up version of Dr. Seuss. Logic which is confusing in it's simplicity, but you just go along with it, the rewards are huge. Will make you laugh out loud, so public transport could become an interesting experience. Give this book a go.

An amazing combination of fantasy, simplicity and clever precise observation. A few minutes into it and you can absolutely believe that this bear took the manuscript and made a rewarding and adventurous life in New York, while the manuscript/s author found the pleasures of life in the woods and hibernation. Surely this complex and hilarious tale should be available on Kindle?

Read it years ago and lost my copy. Hunted this copy down and read it and loved it all over again. Would someone give Kotzwinkle a new biro and get him up and running again.

it was delivered on time and is one of the funniest books I have ever read. The condition for a second hand book was fine.

Super cunning fable about a bear novelist celebrity by the author of ET. Deserves a film to be made of it.
