Product Description

Product Description

Furry O'Mara, a honey farmer by trade and instinct, knows the name of every one of his worker bees and is one of the most famous bears in Ireland. Although he prefers to keep a low profile, his simple world is turned upside down when his young trumpet playing nephew, Brosnan, arrives from Jakarta to undertake a summer work placement. Set across Ireland and Buckinghamshire in England, the two bears gradually become entwined in an international honey sting. The Bear in a Safari Hat is a tale of intrigue and adventure. This is a coming-of-age novel for intelligent youth and adults alike. Welcome to the new bears for the 21st century.

The Bear in a Safari Hat is a post-apocalyptic view of what the world would be like if all humans went the way of the dinosaurs, leaving bears to carry on as furkinds greatest hope. I found the story both fun and exciting. Engaging enough to keep me turning page after page. The characters developed well from start to finish and not long after starting the book I found myself giving all the bears "faces" in my mind.
I would recommend the book to everyone, teens to mid nineties, and eagerly await the next instalment.

The Bears and the Bees 17 July 2008
Format:Paperback
Forget about the birds and the bees. This is an enchanting tale of the bears & the bees.....

Full of vivid imagery, descriptions and 'one-liners' ie "bear-hug", "a paw stand", "the bear brushed his face". When was the last time you heard the word 'cantankerous' used.

So spread yourself a piece on honey, sit back and melt into the wonderful world that is JoJo Gould's mind.

The warm imagery of Terry Brooks and J.R Tolkein's (The Hobbit) collides with Enid Blyton's child like references and leaves you feeling peaceful and at one with yourself and the world.

I will never be scared of a bee again, especially an Irish one.

The Bear in a Safari Hat is a delightfully cheery, absorbing and thoroughly enjoyable tale. Full of sparkling humour, fast-paced and prodigiously well written, this rollicking ursine adventure contains many a witty allusion and basks in colourful, imaginative and carefully crafted detail. Here truly is a book for bear lovers of all ages. Bring on the next instalment, I say - and also the TV series, and the film!
