5.0 out of 5 stars A film to awaken your soul, 14 July 2009
By
M. Evans - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Bear [DVD] (DVD)
One of the most breathtaking films I've ever seen, certainly the best 'from an animal's perspective' type film ever made. How the filmmaker's got the bears to act as they do in the film I've no idea, but they have really captured some stunning moments with the bears here. Even more impressive is the fact that this film was done before the advent of CGI animation, so everything you see here was done for real. The little bear cub is probably the cutest real life animal seen on film you'll ever see. The scenery in the film is also absolutely breathtaking and just adds to the impact of the film. There are a couple of moments that might not be quite suitable for young children, but this is one of those few films that really captures the beauty and awesomeness of nature and wildlife and I for one felt spiritually enriched for watching it. This is a film that has stood the test of time and I don't think will ever age or become irrelevant. I don't think you can get higher praise than that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!, 14 Jun 2007

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. A lovely tale of an orphaned bear cub's survival in the wild, and he even wins around the hunters! The scenery is, as previously said, stunning, and the bond which developes between the cub and the old Grizzly is heartwarming. Directed by the same director of 'Two Brothers' - which I also recommend. Both, a must buy for animal lovers everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST SEE FOR THE KIDS!, 11 Jun 2008
This review is from: The Bear [DVD] (DVD)
A touching story of two bears with a happy ending. Of course, something like this wouldn't have happened in real life - an adult male Grizzly bear would most probably kill a strange cub. However, as it is a nice fiction, not only did they live side by side, they encounter a number of situations where they support each other and come out as the true winners! No blood, fantastic scenery and fabulous bears - a pleasure even for the adults, never mind children. Played it to our friends' under 3 sons - they watched it very attentively and seemed to understand what was going one better than us! Regarding the fact that these boys are always fidgeting, this movie kept them on the couch with no effort! Worth 6 stars.
