10/10 I've read it twice and enjoyed it immensely both times. Saw the film first which made me want to read the book and of course, I'm picturing Leonardo as the hero having seen him make such a good job of the actoring. :) A lot of it freaked me out and you want to get some of those young people and shake some sense into them. Not as horrific as the film with regards to the shark bit. It's sort of grown-up Lord of the Flies really. I'll probably read it again in the future... Jan Bird

French? 17 Dec 2000

hmm...I dont know if any of you fans out there have realized this, but in French do you know what La Plage means? Thats right, The Beach! So I read the book the Beach, which was a very excellent book, but I am just saying, you might be a little disapointed when this book shows up at your front doorstep, and you cant read a word of it, because it is in French--Unless that is, you fluently speak frech!
Saving It For a Special Occasion 15 Jun 2009

I am saving this book as it looks so good I don't want to read it right away. I saw the movie many times, & usually books are better than the movies, so I'm saving the reading of the book for when I want a really good read at a really good place.
