Biography

Five for Fighting’s sixth album, Bookmarks, marks both a return to an earlier time as well as a new musical palette for singer/songwriter John Ondrasik.

“Bookmarks is certainly a more modern record from a production and melodic standpoint than my last few albums, though, as usual, it contains my lyrical slant. It was wonderful to re-partner with my producer buddy Gregg ... Read more in Amazon's Five For Fighting Store

Like most reviewers here, I came to this album by chance or accident and as always, it's so wonderful when you take a chance on an album that turns out to SO fit your music taste. 'Five for Fighting' seemed to be a band name that cropped up all the time on amazon wish lists that I chanced to look at or they'd appear as a recommendation that I'd ignore. Then I saw the album and took a chance which I will never regret. Instantly likeable with noticably cheerful melodies and interesting lyrics this album really is beautiful, I still feel like I'm getting to know this album even though I've probably listened to it 30 times, something new always stands out. Tracks like 'Dying' and 'If God made you' are full of emotion without sounding over-emotional or sickly - wonderful combinations of melody and interesting vocals full of character. Take a chance on this album like I did and I'm sure you won't regret it.

Sounds Like ; for a British listener, the easiest comparison is a voice and style somewhere between an edgier James Blunt (sorry !) and David Gray. Better tunes and better lyrics than either. Style is piano led, with a ballady, acoustic vibe.

Standout tracks: 100 Years is probably the best track on the album, as suggested by most reviewers. The last song, Nobody, has that sort of killer chorus that makes you think it's been ripped off. If it has, please let me know, if not.....genius! To a slightly lesser extent, read the same for Maybe I (on which the vocals sound especially good), One More For Love and the quirky Disneyland with its pretty piano figure.

Quality control : could have cut Infidel, which sadly lacks a discernable tune.

Verdict : of the three FFF albums, this is the least consistent (just) but has probably 3 or 4 of his best songs. You won't be particularly challenged here, but it's nice and warm and fuzzy; and what's wrong with that?

I discovered Five For Fighting about 3 or 4 years ago when I heard Superman on a music channel while basbysitting - I bought America Town and it was money well spent!!! It is a classic cd for any mood and sometimes the tracks are very uplifting when you're a bit down. Battle For Everything isn't a cd I instantly liked, 100 years i had heard before and loved it! But Maybe, Dying, and If God Made You are so beautifully written that you cant help but love them! My advice to people reading this is to listen to the testers on amazon and make up your own mind - it not for everyone but it is a fantastic cd. Try out America Town too because its more of an obvious success - both just as enjoyable - look out for Jainey on AmericaTown - its fab!!!

Five For Fighting have achieved what might have seemed impossible and produced an album, which excels their beautiful 2000 offering, America Town.
John Ondrasik has a spectacular voice with an amazing range and is accompanied by incredibly beautiful guitar and piano melodies. His lyrics are captivating; genuinely touching and flow like poetry.
There are a diverse selection of tracks to hear- from the fantastic, almost eerie, tale told in The Devil in the Wishing Well, the funky, upbeat Angels and Girlfriends and the kooky fantasy of a song- Disneyland. To the sublime, incredibly haunting melody of 100 Years (my favourite track). Which is guaranteed to melt your heart and bring out goose bumps every time you listen. I also have a soft spot for Dying, a song that captures the exact feelings of a love lost.
This is without doubt the best + most unique album I have bought this year and I love it more each time I listen. Highly recommended - a must have!

I don't usually do reviews but this CD brought me to doing so! Strange name for such a beautiful artist -Five For Fighting is apparently the term for a 5 minute sin-bin in Ice Hockey for fighting (of course)- but dont let that deter you. What an incredibly uplifting album of wonderful, wonderful songs. What diversity of tracks on offer here, from beautiful ballards to fast pacy rockers - I simply CANNOT listen to 'Taste' less than 5 or 6 times on every hearing!! Your 'repeat' button will be worn out! If you need a lift or just want to enjoy outstanding music in its highest art form, this album is for you. An absolute 5 star classic album. I've since checked out his other albums and love them all. Step forward John Ondrasik, an incredible major musical talent. Thank you for your music!

This is the latest in a wonderful range of albums.
I cannot wait till they come over and play in Britain. The vocal talent is outstanding. Definately as good if not better than the other 2 albums. If you liked the previous ones, you'll love this!!!

My coming accross this album was down to pure luck! Saw the album on sale for £5 and decided "what the heck", and bough it. Five for Fighting's "Battle for everything" has since become one of my favourite ever CD's. It's pure magic! John Ondrasik is a masterful song writer, and it's his simple, yet emossion filled lyrics that make this album so fantastic. The best track on the album, in my opinion, is "100 years" - beautiful, makes you really appreciate every moment! "Battle for Everything" is a rare gem. ***** - SO BUY IT!
